Last week I went to ‘Vision and Depiction‘, a three day conference at TU Delft in the Department of Industrial Design Engineering, organised by Maarten Wijntjes, Catelijne van Middelkoop, Nim Goede and Gul Onat. I’d met Maarten and Nim at VSAC 2022 in Amsterdam and had a great time there, so I was excited to attend Vision and Depiction. I exhibited some of my paintings at the conference, listened to many interesting talks, saw some of the people again that I’d met before at VSAC and lots of new people too. I got useful feedback on my work, and it was great to hear from other people who are also interested in the things I’m interested in. The people at the conference came from all over and from a mix of disciplines like psychology, neuroscience, data science, archeology, design, art history and more, but everyone was interested in the visual and how we see/understand the world. For me, the mix of disciples and hearing from different perspectives was the best part. I enjoyed the keynote presentations from the invited artists, especially illustrator Joost Swarte and art/science duo Evelina Domnitch + Dmitry Gelfand. It was my first time visiting Delft (near Rotterdam) and it was such a lovely place, lots going on there, and of course bikes everywhere. Huge thanks to the organisers, I had I great time!
